The American Revolution

The Mapping of US History:  American Revolution

First, decide if you are going to use this map to pre-teach or review the American Revolution. You could even add to it a little at time. The instructional video is all together. Don't forget to use proper questioning techniques and formatively assess as you go. If you'd like help making a Nearpod like we had for the French & Indian War, please contact your technology facilitator. This map also includes individuals like Bernardo de Gálvez and John Paul Jones. Students will also map the land gained as a result of the Treaty of Paris.

The American Revolution Begins Google Expeditions

Trade Chromebooks for iPads one day to experience VR using Google Expeditions.
Go to the Google Expeditions app on your iPad, choose Be a Guide, and download the American Revolution lesson. Students will open the app and choose to Be an Explorer. When your iPad and every student iPad is on the same iPad, you will be able to lead and question students through the lesson.

Be Washington

Picture
Put your students in the shoes of George Washington! There are three interactive lessons from Be Washington that align with our TEKS. During each experience students are given relevant, on point historical information and are presented with a problem that George Washington faced.

The first lesson is called Battle of Second Trenton 1777, and while students don't specifically need to know this battle, here is some perspective they will gain from this experience:  declaring independence, a war-torn Colonial army, facing General Cornwallis's army, gaining favor with the French,

To begin, choose to "Host a Game" and display that on your teacher screen. Students will be given a code to enter on their device. When you begin, their screens will not be active until after the introduction video.

*Keep in mind, this is before the Battle of Saratoga, the turning point of the war. This early victory planted a seed in the British that they may not be able to win the war. It also helped convince the French to help out and side with the Americans.

People of the American Revolution

Use the image below as a background picture in software or an app of your choice. Students can add tags describing who each significant person of the Revolution is. The pictures are in order of how the names are listed in standard 8.4(B). Take it to the next level by having students add tags that connect each of the individuals.
